Liquefied natural gas market review, January-October 2009

In February 2009, the Russia’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) production plant has been put into operation within the frames of the “Sakhalin-2” project. In March 2009, the pilot lot of the Russian LNG produced at the plant, was dispatched to the specialized gas carrier vessel. Hence, Russia is now among the countries accessed to innovative technologies of producing and transportation of LNG.
Would that become a local achievement of the “Sakhalin-2” project, or whether it is the beginning of the development of LNG technologies in Russia which will cause new LNG producing plants and gas carriers vessels construction (both at foreign and Russian shipyards), diversification of the Russian gas supplies through customers geography expansion and transportation routes change? We may also consider that, under certain conditions, the development of LNG technologies in Russia could become a guide link in the chain of the whole Russian inductry’s medernization. These and many other questions are touched in the “Liquefied natural gas market review, January-October 2009” report. The Russia’s largest LNG-related enterprises are listed in the report. Main issues on the LNG projects in the Russian Federation are reviewed, including gas-fields development, the construction of LNG plants and reconstruction of the shipyards producing LNG tankers. Foreign LNG producing and transportation market situation is given, as well as the world’s trends in LNG demand and supply.
